Greyhound Café sits in foodie hospot Fitzrovia. Securing a last-minute Friday booking in this area is a challenge (including at top of my list Georgian restaurant, Kinkally). That’s where Greyhound Café, the London outpost of an established Bangkok chain, steps in. Under the radar, reviews suggest it’s a lively spot for a fusion Thai-Western evening.

There is a sense of fun at this Café, manifest in the branded staff T-shirts (“Keep calm and add chilli”), the loud music and even the food and set menus. It isn’t perfect: the tables are too close together, the food arrives as and when the kitchen feels like it, and the service is on the rushed side. Arguably, though, the chaos has a certain charm and it’s a solid option when looking for Thai flavours for a quick bite.

The cooking here packs a punch and delivers big flavours, making it a hit with its lively youthful customers. For me, my Thai Green Curry (£13.50) was on the too spicy side, making it difficult to enjoy the other flavours of the dish – the chilli dominated.

The Sweetcorn Pops (£8.90) alongside, though, provide a welcome pop of sweetness – as per the name, they pop in your mouth and are wonderfully moreish.

Buzzy, vibrant, fun and hip-hop happy, this is food as a fusion fashion statement: authentic Thai, with a Western pop twist and dress-to-impress street style.
