St. Matthew’s Yard

A hidden gem in Croydon’s Old Town, located just off Surrey Street market which is home to what must be one of London’s finest fruit and vegetable markets and even a vegan stall, St. Matthew’s Yard is an arty, stripped-back café-bar. It’s also home to a collective of independent businesses and hosts arts, cultural and community events. As per most coffee shops today, St. Matthew’s Yard, with its wooden floors, has a shabby industrial aesthetic. It also features unique architectural features, like the original lift shaft dating back to the site’s previous use as a former jail house. As well as serving homely foods, Hoodoo’s Coffee and Eats offer an array of non-dairy milks – both soya and almond. St. Matthew’s Yard is definitely emblematic of why Croydon is “up and coming”. At least London’s coffee scene has spread to a spot closer to home…
