Gardenista: Branded as “boho-chic”, Gardenista is certainly beautiful inside. Though billing itself as primary a brunch spot, this place is also open (with the same menu) in the evening. Whilst very instagrammable – both the food and the setting – the food is disappointing. The salads are overly dressed (definitely ask for dressing at the side), the vegetarian/vegan menu choice is limited and the seasoning very uninspiring. Wouldn’t recommend.
Lefkes On The Side: Cresting off his success in Santorini and now with a branch in Manhattan, gourmet innovator Tasos Doumas and team have opened up an all-day shop in Athens, bringing with them a taste of the Cycladic with a lush courtyard and garden, vintage decorations lining the walls, plenty of natural light and some urban cool light fittings. The vibe here is trendy, fun and most importantly tasty. The large open kitchen, decorated with marble, is the site of workshops and tastings. The menu is also long, varied and veggie-friendly, including all the sides (not to be overlooked, true to the restaurant’s name) and salads.
To Bazaki Juice Bar: This juice bar translates into “jar” in Greek and fittingly so: using only locally sourced produce, the juices (and smoothies) are served in reused jars. Beyond the juices, To Bazaki also offers raw, vegan/vegetarian dishes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Not to miss are their Maple Pancakes made with oat flour and drizzled with a generous serving of the Nutlers’ almond butter, blueberries and of course, maple syrup. That makes for some very happy Sunday brunching!
